What If welcomes a wide range of customers, from wedding ring hunters to contemporary jewellery art collectors and fashion jewellery lovers.
The gallery reflects the distinctive style of the founder and designer Francesca with its clean yet irregular and handcrafted and warm aesthetic. Overall the gallery presents a modern look that matches the young, alternative, and yet elegant and picturesque atmosphere of Prenzlauerberg, the historical neighbourhood where What If is located at.
The name What If wants to provoke and invite to think out of the box, out of the classic idea of jewellery.
Francesca Urciuoli is an Italian jewellery designer. Since starting her jewellery education she has not stopped travelling, hungry for new adventures to draw her out of her comfort zone, and to learn new jewellery techniques and languages.
From Perugia, a small city in the centre of Italy, she moved to Florence for her BFA at Alchimia, School of Contemporary Jewellery, and consequently to the USA for her MFA at SUNY New Paltz. After her studies, she undertook several internships in the USA, first in Delaware at Heidi Lowe Gallery and then in San Diego, CA, where she was a studio assistant for metalsmith Anne Wolf. During that time, she learned to work with the mokume gane technique and since then, Francesca has not stopped learning and experimenting with it.
After her experience in San Diego, she moved to Birmingham, UK, because accepted for a residency program at the School of Jewellery. During this time she kept experimenting with the mokume gane technique and developing her jewellery collections. Currently, she is based in Berlin, where she is growing roots and works as a freelancer jewellery designer.
